Paralytic Shellfish Toxins by LC-Fluorescence
Post-column Oxidation Method (“PCOX” – ISSC/NSSP Type IV)
Instructor Jeff van de Riet, CFIA, Canada
Semi-automation of Pre-column Oxidation Method (AOAC 2005.06)
Instructor Stacey Degrasse, FDA, USA assisted by Robert Hatfield, Cefas, UK.
Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are a family of potent, algal neurotoxins based on the parent compound saxitoxin. PSTs occur worldwide, and are the most heavily monitored marine biotoxins. This special laboratory workshop will give hands on experience on two officially accepted LC Fluorescence methods. Attendees will also learn about automation of sample pretreatment in the course of learning important updates to AOAC official method 2005.06. The lecture portion of the course, held at the Annual Meeting of the Pacific NW Section at University of Puget Sound (UPS, in Tacoma, WA) will give required pre-laboratory instruction on the two methods and will also be available to others attending the Annual Meeting. The laboratory sessions will be held at the Washington State Public Health Lab (PHL) in Shoreline, WA, are only available by advance registration, and on a space-available basis. Students in the laboratory will learn in detail about these two methods from method experts and gain first-hand experience in the lab.
Join us for this unique event! Please contact James_Hungerford@hotmail.com in advance to reserve a laboratory spot.
